A mock poster for The Backseat Lovers' show in London.
I created characters based on the band members and illustrated iconic symbols that represent London.
Thumbnails + Value Comps + Color comps
I started off with creating 20 rough thumbnails to get an idea of composition and general ideation. At this stage I draw very quick sketches to produce as many ideas as I can before narrowing it down in the black and white comps. Here I explore value relationships and refine the composition even more.
I further refined the composition of the value composition. I wanted the composition to look more collage-like and decided adding more characters and elements would make it a more dynamic and intricate design that reflects the funky and quirky personality of the band.
Using my value study as a reference I played with color compositions. I knew I wanted to keep a somewhat limited color palette to balance out the many elements in the composition.
